1,4-Butanediol (BDO) is a versatile chemical intermediate used in the production of polymers, polyurethanes, polyesters, elastomers and solvents. It also creates a route to valuable derivatives such as Tetrahydrofuran (THF) and Gamma-Butyrolactone (GBL), enabling a broader platform of C4-based derivatives.
By integrating BDO production within the Maleic Anhydride (MAN) value chain, manufacturers can convert chemical feedstocks into high-value downstream products for applications ranging from biodegradable plastics and textile fibers to batteries, coatings and advanced materials.
The flexibility in using succinic acid as a raw material also allows for the development of a bio-based configuration.
