Closing the Nitrogen Loop
Nitric acid technology has remained fundamentally unchanged for more than 100 years. The chemistry still works and the problem isn’t the chemistry, but what’s around it.
Traditional plants continuously compress enormous volumes of atmospheric air, moving nitrogen through the plant only to release it again. And moving all that nitrogen requires enormous compressors. Which means energy and cost.
Total Recycle Concept (TRC) asks a simple question: Why keep throwing nitrogen away when you can recycle it?

Conventional Plant vs TRC Plant
The Total Recycle Concept takes a fundamentally different approach. Instead of introducing fresh air continuously, the nitrogen already present in the system is retained and recirculated.
Oxygen is supplied separately, allowing the process to operate with controlled synthetic gas mixture.
The gas leaving absorption section has controlled composition of oxygen and nitrogen and is recycled and returned to the ammonia burner.
This creates a closed-loop process gas circuit that mimics the composition of air without requiring continuous air compression.
By eliminating the need to continuously move large volumes of atmospheric nitrogen through the plant, TRC significantly reduces equipment requirements.
Major units such as complex compressor trains, tail gas expanders and NOx abatement systems can be reduced or eliminated, resulting in a more compact and efficient plant configuration.

A Perfect Fit for Green Ammonia
Green ammonia production uses electrolysis to generate renewable hydrogen, with oxygen produced alongside it. TRC simply puts this oxygen to work.
Instead of treating it as a by-product, the process uses it to enable more efficient nitric acid production while reducing air compression requirements, energy consumption and emissions.
