As fertilizer markets become more diversified, producers increasingly require flexible finishing technologies capable of serving smaller capacities, specialty fertilizer applications, and technical-grade urea markets.
Conventional granulation technologies are often optimized for very large-scale commodity production and may not provide the flexibility or investment profile required for niche applications and decentralized facilities.
Nextchem’s Pastillation Design, developed by Stamicarbon, addresses this gap by offering a compact and cost-efficient finishing solution for premium urea pastilles with low environmental impact and simplified operation.
Nextchem’s Urea Pastillation Design is a flexible finishing solution capable of producing high-quality pastilles with low CAPEX and OPEX, minimal emissions and reliable product quality.
It is based on integrating the Rotoformer® pastillation process, a proven finishing technology developed by Sandvik Process Systems.
In this process liquid urea melt is distributed onto a continuously moving steel belt and droplets solidify into uniform pastilles during cooling. Then the finished product is collected for downstream handling and storage.
This process ensures stable product quality, efficient cooling, and low dust generation. Compared to conventional large-scale finishing technologies, pastillation offers a simpler plant configuration with lower utility consumption that reduces equipment requirements.
This makes the technology economically attractive even at relatively small production capacities.
Nextchem's Pastillation Design is optimized to minimize emissions and improve efficiency by lowering operational complexity and maintenance intensity. Resulting in reduced installation footprint, utility demand and operating costs.
If you target technical urea markets with customized fertilizer needs, or if you are seeking environmentally optimized operation, our pastillation technology supports you throughout your operations.

Our Pastillation Design can be integrated into both grassroots urea plants and existing finishing sections. It is developed for specialty fertilizer production and technical-grade urea applications (TGU).
Also, our technology is suitable for small- to medium-scale urea plants and decentralized production facilities. This design is already economically feasible at small capacities starting from 120 mtpd, and is ideally suited for producing specialty fertilizers and technical urea.
