Every year the world throws away metal it can't afford to lose. Global e-waste reached 62 million tonnes in 2022 and is heading for 82 million by 2030.
However, only about a quarter is formally collected and recycled, and the gold, silver, copper and platinum-group metals locked inside it leak out of the value chain. Add spent catalysts, end-of-life batteries and copper-bearing residues, and the untapped pool grows further.
Recovering that value is harder than it sounds: the feedstock is dirty, mixed and variable, and rising metal prices and tighter rules on critical raw materials have turned recovery from a nice-to-have into a business and compliance priority.
How Recovery Actually Works
Through its NX Remida technology, NEXTCHEM enables producers to turn that waste into bank-approved ingots with purity up to 99.99%.
The route combines high-temperature smelting in a proprietary TBRC (Top-Blown Rotary Converter) furnace with a multi-stage chemical and electrochemical refining line, the well-proven Pyro + Hydrometallurgical approach, at TRL 9 and validated in real operating conditions.
Because the process handles mixed feedstock with minimal pre-treatment, it fits materials that other routes struggle with: WEEE and high-value PCBs, spent catalysts, batteries, PV panels and assorted metal residues, all through the same core flowsheet.
From Furnace to Finished Metal
NEXTCHEM delivers NX ReMida as an end-to-end package, and scales the scope to how much a client already knows how to do:
